If you’re planning to furnish your new home with furniture from China, planning ahead is essential. This is especially important for villas, large apartments, and whole-home furnishing projects that require multiple furniture categories.
At Moab, we recommend starting your furniture planning at least three months before your planned move-in date to allow enough time for production and shipping.
1. How Long Do Production and Shipping Take?
When buying furniture from China, there are two main stages to consider:
- Furniture production: Usually around two months, depending on the order and product requirements.
- International shipping: Typically around one additional month, depending on the destination and shipping arrangements.
If you need customized furniture, such as different sofa sizes, upholstery fabrics, colors, or other product details, you may need to allow additional time.
It’s best to finalize your furniture list and requirements early to avoid delays to your move-in schedule.
2. Plan Ahead for the Chinese New Year Holiday
If your purchasing schedule falls around Chinese New Year, planning ahead becomes even more important.
Furniture factories close for the holiday, which may affect production schedules. If you want your furniture to be produced and shipped before the holiday, confirm your order and delivery schedule as early as possible.
Early November may be an important deadline for orders that need to ship before the Chinese New Year break. The exact cutoff depends on the factory’s holiday schedule and your order requirements.
3. Furniture Purchasing Timeline
Here’s a general guide to help you plan your furniture purchases according to your expected move-in date.
This timeline is for general reference. Your actual schedule will depend on customization requirements, order size, shipping destination, and the Chinese New Year holiday.
For whole-home furnishing projects, starting early gives you more flexibility and helps reduce last-minute pressure.
